old things new

several years ago my sister-in-law, leslie, passed along some of grandma helen's glassware. i've enjoyed having and using it. these particular pieces held makeup brushes and compacts.
manufacturers being what they are, one of my standard products changed in shape and size recently and i had to reconfigure my storage/display system. (i like things accessible but neatly 'away')(i like having a reason to use these things)


they have a new home, again, courtesy of leslie.
we visited in early october and after discussing several possible uses for it she sent me on my way with this charmer.

reorganizing

this past weekend actually marked the beginning of my summer routine. (memorial day weekend doesn't count)(i traveled so nothing was normal)(and then you return to a short work week etc)we had a productive weekend and i find myself trying to reorganinze my daily routines to reflect a shift in...my daily routines. the library closes early so i am home at 6:00 now instead of 8. the sun shines 'til almost 10. the heat can start as early as 9:00 so charlie's walk has to happen early which had been my computer time. dew and mosquitos keep me out of my flower beds in the morning but working in them in the evening is now an option. see?? everything has to be reorganized, time maximized. and i just want to drift through the summer.....



my columbine have been stunning. i have a "double" which i'll never do again, but its pretty enough in its own way.



the iris have been regal but are fading fast. i moved some plants over the weekend because everything i've used these past couple years has been shade-loving. i have very little shade left with the paving project at full throttle. my salvia has been swarming with bees.

and i use them!!

i don't have much in the way of free drawer space but i had this chest (i will confess to a container fixation) from tim (i like to encourage gift giving) that i wanted to use for some storage solution while enjoying its decorative elements.


candles protected from staining or chipping through incidental contact by cardboard rolls from papertowels/toiletpaper.

ideas abound

i love collecting ideas. i have binders full of ideas. garden ideas. craft and decorating ideas. christmas and recipe ideas. my ironing board makes a perfect place to organize. because i do iron every week these piles can only sit for so long.


i can go through magazines (many snagged from the library)in the evenings, select the pages i want to keep and process the whole batch on a free afternoon.



recently i went through old martha stewarts where among other good things


i found a timely use for this.


i get to review the ideas i've already amassed as selected pages are trimmed, 3-hole-punched and added to my binders. a good way to kill an afternoon.
